The brand Gucci is synonymous with luxury. It was one of the first major brands that I became obsessed with when I was learning about fashion. I loved how big and bold the pieces were, and how it always gives off a distinctive ” Gucci” vibe. Everyone knows you are wearing Gucci, when you wear it.
The Gucci fashion house did not start out as a clothing and merchandise brand. It was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci as a luxury luggage brand. It was not until the 1950’s that the Gucci stored opened up in New York City. The brand, at this point, had expanded to clothing, bags and shoes. The brand went through a rocky time from various family members trying to gain control of the brand( as depicted in the movie House of Gucci). Currently, the fashion house is under control by Kering.
Gucci Shoes & Bags
There are several recognizable pieces from the fashion house. The first, and one of the most popular, are the Gucci loafers. The famous Gucci metal horse bit loafer first hit shelves in the 1950’s. With its sleek design and distinctive metal horse bit embellishment, the loafer has become a luxury capsule wardrobe staple loved by fashion people, and celebrities alike. There are many iterations of the Gucci loafer. Different colors, styles and eventually mules, named the Princetown mules, have hit the market with the same distinct features of the original loafers.
There are many handbags that fall under the Gucci brand. One of the most iconic is the Jackie 1961 Hobo. Boasting a hobo-style silhouette and piston-shaped closure, the Gucci Jackie was an elegant bag made famous by Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The bag has undergone only minor changes, which is testament of the longevity of the bag’s appeal. The bag was the beginning of the era of the Gucci “It” bag.
Gucci Dupes
As you can imagine, Gucci items cost a pretty penny. The loafers run close to $1000, while the mules are a bit cheaper, coming in under $900. As much as I appreciate the beauty of Gucci shoes and bags, I simply can’t afford to fork over that much cash for shoes. Enter: Gucci dupes. There are plenty of high-quality Gucci dupes on the market, that look similar to the original design. Scroll below for 15 Gucci shoe and bag dupes.
