I have highlighted many times how well Parisian women dress throughout the year. The one item that French women know how to style well is denim. It is an essential piece that is incorporated in their wardrobe.

Jeans are a French wardrobe essential and the item the item that French women reach for year after year. The French don’t really do “dressing up,” and Parisians are always ones to choose comfort and practicality over restricting or gaudy going-out outfits.

The French style of dressing denim is simple, yet chic. French women tend to shy away from skinny jeans, and prefer a high waist dark denim pair.

Parisians tend to stick with classic and timeless styles of jeans versus wearing anything trendy. This means skipping the distressing, and holes of any kind. The styles of jeans they prefer to wear are straight-leg jeans, flare jeans, and wide-leg.

Scroll below for the French style of dressing denim for the springttime.

The flowy blouse is a favorite of French women. Pretty blouses add a point of difference to plain shirt on days when you crave a little something more je ne sais quoi.

The flowy blouse is relaxed, yet chic for a casual day.

A blazer-and-jeans is the ultimate trans-seasonal outfit formula and perfect for adding polish.

Besides adding another layer of warmth, a blazer can also make any outfit instantly feel more elevated and put together.

French fashion is all about adding instant sophistication to any outfit with wardrobe basics.

The black blazer is an essential capsule wardrobe staple. There is essentially no wrong way to style a black blazer – but, why not style it like a French woman?

Tie-front blouses may seem like an adventurous silhouette to master, but they make the perfect piece to layer under a blazer. Finish off the look with ballet flats to complete a very Parisian look.

Top + Flare Jeans + Pumps

French girls have a knack at making even the simplest of basics look seriously chic. The thought of those ’70s-style bell-bottoms has always felt too retro for my own taste.

However, Parisians prove that flares can work on just about anyone, whether in a casual or dressy context.

Take style notes from the French and balance the volume of flares with a formfitting top or bodysuit. During those chilly spring days, add a leather jacket for warmth.

As cliché as it might seem, breton stripes are seemingly one pattern the French set seemingly can’t live without.

No matter what’s trending, without a doubt, you will always see a striped jumper as an essential part of French girl style. The classic pattern goes with everything, especially jeans.

Trench + Jeans + Mary Janes

A prime example of a classic staple that will never go out of style? A classic beige trench coat. Thanks to its timeless details and neutral color palette, the best trench coats can do no wrong.

It’s a coat French women have relied on for years for its effortless look for transitional dressing. Because of their water-resistant fabrication, trench coats are a common style choice for spring’s rainy days.

Blazer + Denim + Mules

French girls seem to have jumped aboard the camel blazer trend.  The addition of a camel blazer to a simple jeans and tee will add an elevated edge.

Camel blazers are perfect for draping over your shoulders, adding that polished finishing touch to trousers, or styling atop a little black dress for date night. Swap out the light wash jeans for a pair of white denim for a fresh, spring look.

Blazer + Jeans + Heels

Borrow a look from the boys – with an oversized blazer look. Denim isn’t the only oversized trend right now—loose-fitting blazers are also having a moment.

It is hard to walk down the streets of Paris without noticing an oversized blazer outfit. A great way to wear the classic piece is to juxtapose an oversized blazer with flare bottoms and statement heels.

Shirt + Jeans + Flats

A style that continues to increase in popularity and will continue to thrive are straight leg jeans.

The best straight-leg jeans will always be relevant, regardless of current denim trends. Their elegant simplicity also provides a polish most other denim silhouettes can’t offer, especially styles without distressing which the French usually do not gravitate towards.

For a casual look, that is quintessentially French, opt for a crisp, white button down shirt and ballet flats. For a chillier day, throw a cashmere sweater over the shoulder for a layering piece. Swap out the flats for ankle boots.

Jacket + Blouse + Jeans + Sneakers

If there is a city that allows for experimenting with seasonal transitional style, it’s Paris. The quilted jacket—the trench coat’s cooler, chicer sister—is polished no matter the forecast.

The timeless trench coat will be always be an integral part of Parisian style. However, the light-weight outerwear is a versatile piece. To keep the look French-inspired, add a button down shirt and sneakers.
